LEADERSHIP & EDUCATION IN NEURODEVELOPMENTAL AND RELATED DISABILITIES, OR
LEND.
If I could only describe LEND in one word, it would be opportunity.
LEND is a 9 month training program for clinicians and community members which seeks to cultivate leaders in the field of disability. It is comprised of leadership and didactic coursework, interdisciplinary care and practice, research, and community engagement.
Throughout this year, I have developed myself both personally and professionally. LEND has offered me a new lens through which to view my motivations, goals, challenges, and skills.
I chose to participate in LEND because my heart has been in pediatric care for as long as I can remember. As genetic counselors, we care for individuals across and throughout the lifespan. We are just one piece of a larger whole in their medical care. Our patients may see tons of other specialties on a regular basis and it was important to me that I gain a better understanding of the medical system and the pieces within it. LEND allowed me to engage with other providers, observe their clinical activities, and discuss their roles and frameworks. Not only has my understanding of medicine deepened, my perspective has broadened.
LEND has afforded me so many opportunities. I have been able to: engage in my community in novel ways, develop my leadership style, build relationships, travel the world, and create a network for success. I have been lucky enough to have 9 months of learning that has turned into a lifetime of growth.
